US Technology Jobs are Here to Stay despite Offshoring Research
I've been predicting this since last fall when the first negative articles about offshoring began to appear. Now it seems there is one article like that a day. I actually think offshoring has its place and will grow, but the rate at which technology is being adopted into every facet of business and its processes, not to mention wireless and other devices means that our world, and especially the US, will need armies of techies. And not grunts in India but high-dollar trained "innovation" professionals here in the US!

And that means big bucks for IT people!

Yea, everyone says that offshoring is taking away 30% or IT jobs by what, 2010? And then automation, and then moving IT into business processes will drain all IT from the US economy. Thats nothing but BS!

In fact, I predict the opposite will happen....todays competitive edge is and will be more and more based on Information Technology and innovation surrounding the practice inside each and every company. That doesnt mean ALL IT has to be handled in-house by expensive people. Minor stuff will need to be automated and moved possibly to software or offshoring grunts. But it will mean hiring more and more expensive IT professionals once again in the US in incresing numbers to innovate, manage, supplement, enhance, and integrate. And thats a dwindling supply at present! New skills (like .NET) will be needed, and constant training, but salaries will be big because the true innovators will still exhist here in the US. You can "IP everything" overseas, but at some point you need someone in the flesh who has the brains, innovative talents, skills, and knowledge tied to your business and in-house people to succeed in the new climate. Thats only found in US IT people at present. Not only that, but I predict the new line of younger CEO's and business people will come completely from IT backgrounds in the future....not the other way around and your typical MBA, as so many are predicting. Why? Because business will be increasingly built on IT services stacks, and innovation teams surrounding that with a smaller core shell tied to the actual business people is what I see happening. I know that goes against what everyone says in the business world, but thats the future! If you have NEVER been a programmer in the US or been in Information Technology, I predict you will be losing your job in the next 30 years. Thats my prediction!

So IT in the US is back and it will be a great and exciting field with tremendous growth the next few years, I predict. Bill Gates is right to be concerned about loss of computer people in colleges and H1-B visas! (In addition, looks like the the US Dept of Labor predictions are right and Forrester Research is wrong concerning tech job demands the next ten years!)
