I did not actually intend to support those assumptions - merely to point out anecdotal evidence from our recent hiring which supports the idea that women may be "under represented" in IT due to low interest, rather than some grand conspiracy.

I agree with you that it is not necessary that any category of person must be represented to the same % in every occupation as balanced with their % of population. In fact, I think that it is natural that they are not - just as we men are "under-represented" in other career fields. There is a difference in interests which drives some of these statistics.

Finally, I agree with you that we shouldn't make laws which focus on a reaction to a narrow statistical calculation without understanding the underlying social elements. Reason should drive laws, not dogma.

Sane laws produce sane results; insane laws produce disorder and civil unrest. Prohibition proved this. It would be well for our elected officials to keep this in mind when legislating.
