Actually, speaking to some women

They seem to want to stay at home and take care of kids now. They seemed to have had their fill of working and would like to actually return to a home making life. I have had female bosses my entire life, so i am not biased here, i just thought i would add what i have been hearing. BTW my sister is another one of those people who wants to stay at home.

My mother on the otherhand is not someone who wants to say at home and is currently doing very well as a VP. So it really depends on the woman, but i would say that this does have something to do with the shortage of women.

An issue that might affect both sides is that IT is turning into a one stop shop for phones( cell/landline), Database, Web, file sharing, etc.. What i am getting at here is that one skill no longer cuts it, you have to know hardware, software, servers, phones, networking and databases as well as anything management walks up to you with. An automechanic has less stuff to know than we do.

As far as minorities go, not sure, maybe they are finding jobs that are more local to their families and allow them more time off.

I dont know about the rest of you guys, but i cant just leave the IT shop for a month, so that may be a big turnoff for anyone who is looking at careers and what kind of time they will invovle.
