For argument's sake...
The reason why I like having a few female techies around is because women tend to approach problems differently then men do (not necessarily better, just different). Problems tend to get solved quicker if people on your team look at them from different angles.

That said, I think a major diversification campaign would be a mistake; people should go into the computing profession (or any other) because they want to and that's what they're good at, not to meet other people's social goals.

Most that can be done in this case is to make it more affordable for people who want the skills to get them (college is still the great class filter). Equalize the opportunity and people can go where they can serve best.
