What do we do about it...
...and why do we care? While I like working with female techies (my sister is one), the fact is that few women want to do that kind of work and a disproportionate percentage of the female population is technophobic.

I think reasonable steps can be taken to address the latter problem (which would help the former), but I don't think affirmative action programs (in any form) would do the slightest bit of good.
