Sun - Why are they still here
This is not the first time I have bagged Sun and I feel it will not be the last. Once again the people running Sun have missed the point and have wasted alot of there own time doing this new JRL. Should they look at going open source? Maybe they should but what I feel they should look at doing Java as an open Standard like .Net. Oh I can hear all you Java Fundamentalist now screaming about that last statement and I can understand why but as much as you might hate it, what MS did with .Net was a good idea. By making it an open standard it allows many different people with different coding back grounds to code in .Net. Pearl, Cobol, Lisp etc can all be used to write .Net code, if MS ever allowed .Net to run any platform I think you would see Java fall by the way side. Sun needs to pull there head out of there ass and start letting others have more control of the future path of Java. God knows Sun is doing a **** job at it. When you look at what most companies use to run Java there is not much Sun these days and it will get less and less as time goes on. IBM, BEA, JBoss are some of the real power houses in the Java game, when it comes to IDEs Borland and Ellipse are the main players. JBoss and BEA have got a good chunk of the Java server market and IBM is pushing Linux as the OS for Java. I feel it is time for Scott to stand down, his time has past.
