Take over your desktop?
How on earth does Flash take over your desktop? If you
don't like flash, remove the plugin - presto, no Flash in
your pages. Or use Firefox and Flashblock to not even load
Flash animations (clicking on the icon used to replace the
animation will load them if you like).

Flash absolutely can't do anything on your desktop. It can
only run in a browser and requires you to install software to
even run. Try that with IE - it's installed by defalualt and is
almost impossible to remove without harming your system.
MS designed it that way simply so you can't remove it.

done with Java or other real programming languages."

You clearly have no idea about web technologies.
