Re: Crapple - oh please
Crapple? Using that term just puts you paints you with the same brush reserved for people that use windoze, m$ and other derogatory terms. And like them puts whatever else you have to say in doubt. But lets review your comments just for fun:

?They cost three times as much as a PC and don't have one tenth of the functionality?

If you had bothered to actually read some of the latest comparisons, you would know that Apple is quite competitive on prices these days. In fact most PCs (dual processor Xeons) from major vendors (Dell, IBM, etc) that compete with the dual processor G5's actually cost more.

?There are millions of Windows programs available and a large percentage of those programs are free.?

I don't think anyone knows how many Windows programs there are, so I won't debate that point. Yes, a large percentage of them are free ? and based on their quality, most are priced appropriately.

?There are a few thousand Crapple programs and they are expensive?.

Actually, the cost of most commercial products are basically the same on both platforms.

Macs also enjoy a large variety of free software, and like free Windows software, its quality ranges from excellent to junk.

?Plus OS X is not compatible with anything else.?

OS X is Unix based and thus runs many of the major Unix/Linux programs, with more becoming available every day. For this reason, from a business standpoint, it may even has a larger selection of quality programs available than windows - depending on the tasks it has to do.

?Yet Windows XP will run most Windows 3.11 programs. Good call.?

WXP will run programs most users were happy to see disappear in the first place. I can't argue with than.

?Obsolete computers are fun to use.?

Yes. Obsolete computers ARE fun to use ? once you install Linux on them so they can be useful

IMO, Apple will never have the popularity of Windows. For most people Windows is good enough.
However, Windows will never have the quality of Apple's products, because Microsoft has to make too many comprises in order to run on hardware whose quality ranges from excellent to junk.

But to get to the point of the article, when computers and consumer electronics do converge the best of these new devices won't be running anything from Microsoft unless MS starts with a clean sheet of paper and builds a new secure operating system from scratch.
