One difference.
All of the media you mentioned required a specific payment to be made to perform the copying. There was a price for the blank media and you had to either physically distribute it or pay someone else to. By admitting you downloaded the movie rather then go see it at the theater you admitted to the very crime that is behind DRM. If it weren't for thieves DRM wouldn't exist.
