DRM = huge losses.
"At least with WMA and Apple's format, they can limit their losses."

If I don't buy your music because I can't play it on my MP3 player, thats a loss too.
Its a lost sale no different from a piracy loss.

When the DRM was heavy, nobody bought music at all online. Almost *all* of the potential sales were lost. So the losses caused by the DRM far outweighed the losses from the piracy.

With the DRM was set low enough for even some people to consider buying the music, the DRM's value in stopping piracy disappeared.

I could write a CDR out for my friends and send them that, from iTunes & Walmart just as easily as I could write out an MP3 disk.

But why would I subscribe to a music service whose music I can't play on my music player? It defeats the whole purpose of buying the music file!
