why a $???? for linux firewall?: i use fedora currently for my server because of its selinux and based on some recommendations. i use suse on my laptop and desktop, but the desktop gets switched out quite a bit as i like to try other linuxes.

all versions of linux i have used include a kernel level firewall ipchains. included as in more free than beer. this is assuming you dont want to use a NAT firewall built into routers. or you can use them together for extra security.

i notice you based both designs on the same hardware, but keep in mind that linux requires far less equipment and still provides far more performance.
