RE: tic, you've bought some exaggerations.
?A person smart enough not to open a bad email is probably going to run into no trouble at all.?

Keep in mind that Mac users do not have the same fears of e-mail that Windows users have. They haven't been burned for the last 5 years with virus after virus after virus. Seems you forgot that important piece of the puzzle.

?But because that's probably true, some precautions are worthwhile.?

Yes, precautions are worthwhile! But the problem is Mac users as a whole do not have to worry about a fraction of the problems Windows users do. Their systems are already secure by design and a hell of a lot more flexible too!

?I use an anti-virus, Avast! from Alwil. Free, updates itself.
I use the Microsoft anti-spyware beta. Free, updates itself.
?

Two pieces of software (amongst many...) that a Mac user doesn't have or need. They will expect their PC to behave like a Mac and that means the inherent security they enjoyed with their Macs.

?If you want more than the Microsoft firewall, which actually seems to be good enough, go to NoNags.com and try one or two of the free ones with a 6 rating until you're sure which one you like.?

Again this is already transparent and running with the FreeBSD based Macintosh! Another step that will further confuse and complicate their transition!

?Things are not desperate with Windows. Things only seem desperate to those supposed computer professionals who say that they have horrendous problems with keeping Windows going, but run Linux for centuries without care.
Certain stories are themselves indications that the person telling them is looking for satisfactions other than the ones that come from accurately describing reality.
?

For me Windows is more work to use and maintain just because of it's inflexible nature. My Linux systems run for months without a problem. They are up to date with all the latest security patches that apply. They run behind a multi-layer security protocol that I devised and they just work. I never have to reboot them, patching is easy to do... click accept click install click complete. Whereas a Windows PC, I have to make sure the AV is up to date, make sure the firewall is working correctly, make sure the ASW is up to date, make sure the AAW is up to date, make sure updates are installed-reboot as needed (most of the time!) sure many of these processes can be automated to a point, but many required a reboot and interaction on my part. Then once I have all these things accomplished I can proceed to do what I set out to do. In a corporate environment, I don't worry, that is what our tech guys are for. If it fails their problem, not mine.

?tic, people learn complicated new applications without collapsing. Getting Windows set up to taste is nowhere near as difficult.?

For a Mac user or even a newb... yes it is. When I explain to people what is required for them to run Windows safely... well I either get to install Linux, they buy a Mac, they get Windows and pay me to maintain their machine (which I would rather not... but the money is good) or they don't bother with getting a PC at all. Too much hassle, too much money and too much time.

?Trust me.?

Trust me.
