As customers understand more about open source, they will demand it.
So, if one company does not give them what they want, they will go elsewhere. I think there is plenty of room for companies that give customers the ultimate guarantee of no dirty tricks. These companies will be long term viable. Yes, the days of Microsoft sized profits may be a thing of the past before long, but, that is competition.
