I'm not sure what Sun has in mind since I'm not familiar with their storage solution, except to say that it loses money. If Sun drops its image as a software innovator, and concentrates on markets that are apt to improve in the enterprise they could succeed. I doubt if its reliable to compare a Unix box with a risc chip with Windows/Intel (except Itanium on 64-bit), and I don't see how their foray into Linux reselling is useful, but STK certainly revitalizes their grid strategy. It's time to sever ties with the open source community other than as a neutral contributor like IBM and concentrate on what made them successful to begin with. Unfortunately the merger is tarnished by flat revenue for STK, a history of bankruptcy, and the unlikely prospect that their sales/channels will have better luck than Sun's. Nevertheless, their is hope that this motivates buyers to re-think when re-tooling. My guess is that HPQ is quaking.
