Interpretation...
There is no real "simple" format and everything has to form some sort of hiearchel mechanism to begin with.

If you go into EDI it follows the same type of thing, just less characters are used up since it doesn't require .

If you take a common comma delimited file for example same thing... There is no real perfect solution..

But if you ask me, XML is nice to read over standard EDI because right from the get go you can see the relationships by the tags rather than having to follow the number (eg: 801 for example) and then trying to figure out which field they are outputting and how it relates. :P Ever have to implement a complete EDI solution with another company? Mapping is a pain in the, you know what. Anyone can atest to that. Especially those who have actually used and implemented EDI.

Just something I've learned in my time having to implement EDI, XML etc.

No solution is perfect, but I do think much of it is up to user and their likes...

I like XML because it allows for flexibility and not having to worry about mapping. You simply just have to know how to name your tags. It has it's down falls.. I mean try parsing through a 100 meg order line file.. XML would DEFFINITLY not be a good solution in that case.

Then again I think I'm getting off topic here.
