Linux and Apple?
Linux and Apple have nothing to do with it. The antitrust trial was over Microsoft abusing its monopoly power to push their other products. Specifically Internet Explorer. After the trial, everything remained exactly the same. Microsoft is still shipping Windows with IE embedded in OS with no way of uninstalling without seeking out third party software. This is exactly what the trial was over, and exactly what Microsoft agreed not to do years before the trial even began.
This oversight committee is not doing its job. Not only is it not doing anything to stop Microsoft from doing the very thing they were sued for, they aren't doing anything to stop them from doing the same thing in other markets. They've already bundled Windows Media Player with Windows, setting it as the default handler for nearly every audio and video format, with numerous context extensions in Windows Explorer. They've also embedded their own zip and cd burning software (which will inform you to use Windows Media Player to make audio cds) into the shell. Now they're moving into security software (to solve a problem they've primarily caused). First with an embedded firewall , and now they've rebranded an antispyware program that will likely end up in longhorn. They're also talking about antivirus software. But this committee doesn't care, they're busy making up icon problems to solve so they look like they're doing something.
