If you "*refuse* to acknowledge there are any competitors out there" [emph added], then by definition you WOULDN'T KNOW if any open source alternatives were better.

And if you're 'calling you developers on the carpet' for possessing "fedora" CDs, then you're encouraging your developers to march in lockstep with your views, regardless of what their experience and training might teach them.

I'll put it another way: Any CIO who thinks that he knows better than the people he pays good money to -- well, to know better -- is a profoundly unwise manager. So it sounds like you're either wasting money on your help, or you need to revisit your management philosophy.
