Nice try.
Application packaging is a true black art - one that I have thouroughly assimilated. There are ALWAYS exceptions to the rule!
Applications that require IO during install.
Applications and package data reside in different places - what happens when one is corrupted?
Need to understand the software install behavior in order to package it (3rd-party apps).
Applications that require system-level config changes (port entries in services, PAM modules, etc.).

Bottom line is that you need application developers to understand the install process when they design their app, and they don't.
