MS 'XML' is a proprietary perversion of the standards
WordML, (IMHO) is a de-facto perversion of XML, implementing "data lock-in" within an XML format. Large amounts of the Word document are described in cryptically named, Hex-64/binary formatted fields. There's no documnetation. There's no inter-operability.

I think that WordML has designed to serve 2 purposes, neither of which are in end users' best interests: (1) to make MS-Word compatible with RFPs which "require" XML data; and (2) to start spinning the upgrade treadmill on those older MS-Word file formats.
