600,000 Beta Testers? Easy
I'll bet I can guess where most of these beta tester numbers come from. It's easy, every MSDN subscriber get's a beta copy of the software. Most MSDN subscribers (and I'd be willing to bet there are at least 600K MSDN subscribers, probably many more) have at least installed and looked at Office 2003. Is that true beta testing? Ummm, in my book not really, but the beta version was probably installed and at least reviewed by at least that many people. I find nothing sketchy about those numbers. My small-ish company (200+/-) has at least 40 people who have been running Office 2003 from MSDN for several months.
