Oh good grief
Honestly, I have to wonder if some of the people who pontificate on these topics have even seen code.

Never once is .NET identified as the weakness of the platform. What the article does seem to indicate, however, is that, at the same time as adapting .NET, they went to a web platform.

Now - anyone who has done any migration of a desktop client server application to a web based one is that http is notoriously flaky. You can do it - but your architecture must take into account the number of pipes that have been opened by WinInet on the client, load on the http server, etc.

So basically there is a lot of architecting involved. And sometimes the architecture you yourself have built is what is to blame.

If I build an application that caches a whole pile of data on the client, and I discover the requirements are to use a very thin client because of underpowered desktops, well, I've blown it.

And I've blown it, regardless of what underlying platform has been used to do the construction.
