There are Legal DVD players for Linux
Lindows has one. Sure it's not free but niether is the Windows one for WMP either. You have to pay to download the plug-in for it.

This in no way hurts open source or gpl products.

Just because it runs on Linux doesn't mean it's free. I mean I run Open Office on Windows and it's free. It's all in the licensing. I can also run Oracle 9i on Linux but Oracle sure isn't going to let me do it for free because it's Linux. They will license the software to me to use.

Now if Microsoft want to alienate customers by not allowing software that runs on Linux from open an Office document then all the power too them. But I don't think the brains and Microsoft are that stupid.

An how about those media formats. Gee I can't watch Quick MOV files with WMP nor can I watch Real's RM files on WMP or vice versa. Now I can't say I watch a lot of these proprietary formats but if Linux gets more desktop share guess who will be there with a player for it?
