Not any more...
...any distribution of Linux that would meet the requirements of
the target market have system requirements that exceed that of
Windows XP.

I've install Fedora Core 3 on a Pentium II 233MHz with 128MB of
RAM. Paging made the system unusable (yes I disabled many
services on this system in an effort to reduce the pagining).
Windows XP on the same machine ran reasonable well.

Comparable Linux distribution (defined as features and usability
that the target market would accept) require more hardware
than Windows. Linux is no longer the lightweight it used to be.
