It is quite easy to pirate DVDs to suitable pirate quality without ever using DeCSS. You just connect the video out from your DVD player to a Mini DV camera, or plain old VCR, and record 'til your heart's content. No encryption hack, no DeCSS, nothing.

The DMCA is like putting people in prison because they buy a lock, then dismantle it to see how it works, on the basis that such activity can only possibly be to burgle homes. Therefore, learning the design of the lock becomes a criminal offence.

"Burn her, she's a witch". I wonder if the Monty Python crew knew of the DMCA 25 years ago?
