DVD acquittal means DMCA quick death
Jon did nothing wrong, the court said it was OK to use your own property however you see fit.
Norwegian VOTING public thought the same.

So you're suggesting that copyright law will be strengthened against the wishes of the Norwegian public? I don't think so, do you?

I for one am happy, its been a good year. DRM has been shown to be snakeoil. The record companies turned down the DRM and found they could sell music online (well DUH!). The DMCA is now shown to be worthless (if the DRM is snakeoil then the DMCA simply protects sellers of snakeoil).

Jack Valenti & Hilary Rosen are out. If they'd gone sooner we could be having a new music+movie download boom right now.

2004 should see the death of the fake after sale contracts known as the EULA and hopefully the DMCA will continue to die a quiet death.

2003's not been perfect. Valenti finally succeeded in killing the VCR. Don't believe me? One of the settings for that broadcast flag is "Don't record this". Broadcast TV wants you not to skip the adverts because thats how they make money. If they set this flag, they can stop you recording it on a VCR, so you can't fast forward through the adverts.

So the VCR is dead, just as soon as enough people have the new TVs, shame on the FCC.

Oh well, Merry Christmas everyone.
