I believe that's what I said....
You said, "So the big trap is to make better software that more customers want to buy."

Did you read the subject line of the comment, Anton? Here let me quote it for you: "It's good for you, and bad for a distributor..." One presumes from sentence construction that the parent poster is something other than a distributor? And probably a customer? Would that not be a logical inference?

Given that little bit of clarification, I think you're simply agreeing with me and repeating what I said - the user initially benefits. The distributor ultimately does not. The danger, I repeat is to the Linux distributor. Once his marketshare is linked only to a monopoly product from a dominant vendor, that distributor is now controlled by that vendor and must accede to the vendors demands or lose marketshare.

I repeat: Witness the shenanigans played against Apple. Everytime Microsoft wanted to keep Apple from enforcing Apple's Intellectual property rights; Microsoft used the stick "No more Mac Office". Everytime the threats were made, MacIntosh sales dropped off. Apple increased their success when a piece at a time they moved out from under that Microsoft dependency.

Why would Redhat want to enter a partnership that proved to stifle Apple? What's to stop Microsoft from doing the same thing to Redhat? In the current business climate of protecting existing contributors: nothing.

We probably agree that initially such a deal will benefit the end user. We may even agree that optioning to apply such leverage to protect his existing market is "good" business decision for the dominant monopoly vendor (illegalities not withstanding). However, I don't think even in your wildest dreams could you construct an argument for why blithely slipping his head into the vendor's noose is a good, long-term, business decision for the distributor?

I don't expect you to be horrified Anton, but I do expect you to use your head and not post Bit-Byte like quips. You're better than that.
