- I think they could concentrate on other areas
- As a long time Java developer I see absolutely nothing wrong with Java as it stands now. It is fast, powerful, flexible, stable, and extremely well documented. I don't see anything that the open-source community could add by branching off and starting up a "new" Java implementation. On the contrary this is going to be counter productive to the Java community as a whole by dividing the focus of Java developers and creating a mess. Unless this new implementation is 100% compatible with the current JVM's then its going to be a nightmare deploying new apps because now we will have to test and support even more versions. And just to get to 100% compatibility is going to be a monumental undertaking. I think Apache has lost their marbles on this one.
