purists
There are open source purists that will rewrite something not because they've had a specific problem with a vendor or a product, but because of their purist view that a particular license is imcompatible with (let's say for example) the GPL.

The article is light on the details, but I suspect that's what is going on. I would say to them (essentially) the same Sun is saying to them. Knock yourself out!
