I can assure you that there are plenty of other people who wouldn't mind too much.

So? I'd rather have a machine which runs slowly after a kernel upgrade than no machine at all. I can sort out some "optimized" drivers later, the important thing is that it still runs.
I think the "real issues" are that some people need to lose the Linux religeon. I assure you that most Windows users don't use it for any religeous reasons, they just want a computer which works. They honestly won't notice if it's a bit slower.
