What optimisations?
"If you care about optimizations then you do not use gcc."

Size? Speed? Combination? What architectures?

"one size fits all != optimized object code"

The implication is that gcc's optimisations are the same
regardless of target processor, which isn't the case.

"Most Linux boxes run on x86 processors and Intel's x86
compiler can be compatible with gcc and it produces better
object code than gcc."

Which 386, 486, 586, 686, AMD Opteron, etc?

One comparison of Intel's compiler and gcc for a
number of tasks can be found [url= http://
www.coyotegulch.com/reviews/linux_compilers/
index.html]here[/url].

We can see your assumptions are very simplistic.
