Some home run...
I've just happened across a couple of reviews on the new product, but the consistent message is, pass on this upgrade. Doubtful it will do much to alter the balance of use - those that subscribed to Microsoft's "innovative" license scheme are already paying for it and will get it. Many others won't spread their scarce IT dollars to something offering little gain.

The next big "push" would be either with a major advance in Office, or abandonment of an earlier version. The latter will make the users who have been standing pat, such as my organization, make a decision.

Just to make sure I have sampled the wares, I have been using Open Office personally for about two months. I know I rank above the average in demands, but also acknowledge that there are "power users" who make use of super-specialized capabilities. But thus far, at my level, I see virutally no reason to choose one product over the other.

My organization has been charged with saving several tens of millions for each of the coming fiscal years in "commodity IT." Based on the current state of office products, I'm confident I know where a sizeable chunk of those savings will come from.

Definitely not a home run or market-share savior.
