I think the practice of going after every last "pirate" as they like to call it is idiocy. This program is a baby step in the right direction. You may not agree, but windows became prevalent and loved by many in it's early days because you could give a copy to a friend and upgrade their computer. Ya, you were never allowed to, I know. But you were never strapped to a cross and crucified for it either. What none of the companies understand (RIAA listen up!) is that your product is spreading like wildfire. The people using it become dependent and somewhere down the line, they put money in your pocket....either by using your standards, or by realizing that sometimes it is easier to go buy a boxed copy. Many people will do the right thing when they are not forced to do so. This is human nature. No microsoft does not need to make every single penny for every single copy of every peice of software on the market. All they need to do is make sure their product ends up on as many desktops as possible. Too many companies these days, such as the RIAA think that they deserve every single dollar that has been "lost" through "piracy". #1 Many of these people would not have purchased your product anyway...but maybe they will in the future, if you let them get hooked...stop jamming rules down our throats! #2 Noone that casually trades your software is doing it maliciously....they like your product and probably would buy it if they could afford it or it was easier for them.
Microsoft will have a real threat on their hands, if a slick desktop linux solution starts to spread. It would have to truly be able to run ms apps and games though.
Now I'm not saying that they shouldn't go after major bootlegging operations.....but I don't think they should bother chasing individuals because they will help them in the long run.
They just don't seem to understand people. - Posted by: Protector Posted on: 05/05/05 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
