lethax is correct that the rigidity of this proprietary solution is a huge problem. Industry standards in UI development have been completely ignored. You talk about 80 characters wide in a field, but unfortunately you can't specify the width of fields by number of characters. You have absolutely no control over position or size of controls, everything is auto positioned where the application 'thinks' the controls should go. So you end up with fields that are 1 character max but stretch across the whole screen. There are some tricks you can play to make a little headway, but overall you have almost no control of the UI. Then there are other UI things like having to click on a checkbox first to get focus and then click again to change the value.

Then lets not forget things like not having a boolean data type. What other ide out there exists which does not have a boolean data type? You have to create a char field and put "Y"/"N" validation rules on it.

Also, there are no messageboxes, such as the industry standard Yes/No messagebox. You have to create awkward looking forms (and it takes several hours to do that) and use a bunch of hacks to get it to work right. Most of the things that you can do with todays standard IDEs cannot be accomplished at all using TF. It seems to rely heavily on hacks for anything but the simplest of things.

For very strict basic applications, this might work ok, but as soon as you need to create a robust, user-friendly, complex application, TF just does not make the cut.

Also, you talk about Tenfold being 'worth it' The development effort for using Tenfold versus, say .Net is about the same if you are turning out the same product. Also the TF cost is actually more than others from a licensing standpoint. $1000 per seat is pretty expensive, especially when MS products have per processor licensing.
