I agree with you
People DO need more than those few apps. The question you have to ask yourself is whether or not Linux provides THOSE apps as well. If you use Quicken, then Gnucash or Kmoneymanager (I think those are the names) may have enough features for you. Then again, they may not. The CD/DVD burning programs in Linux may be good enough for you, or in some cases better (which is what I've found myself). Then again, you may need more (especially if you are into creating video DVDs).

Linux DOES have a lot more than word processing, e-mail, and internet. I've been using it exclusively for daily home use for about a year now, and I certainly use it for more than just those three things. But I also realize that just because it has enough for me that it may not have enough for you.

Of course I can say the same about Windows, as Linux has more of what I need than Windows, plus it costs less (in my case it only costs the time of a 3-4 hour FTP install), plus I just like it better.
