Linux and the dumbing down of corporate America.
One of the funny "arguments" I repeatedly hear from Linux supporter's is that "all most people need is a word processor, an email client, and a browser".

They completely reject the common sense that tells us people had that 20 years ago running from main frames with dumb terminals and no one wanted it. Here's a clue, they still don't want it!

In my work I come into contact with hundreds of users machines every year, I have never (NEVER!) found one running just the above applications. Everyone has one (or more) favorite apps, utilities, etc. that they have "custom fit" for their use.

If Linux plans to make real progress with the end users, it won't be by offering up a second rate, stripped down set of minimalist applications to users. They simply will not go for it. When corporate America tried this (main frame/dumb terminals) before, users simply said no and bought their own PCs.

Youngsters with no life experience won't remember it but it was very common for people to buy their own PC and bring it to work and completely reject the dumb terminal unless there was no way around using it.
