Did you guys actually read the article ?
*sheesh*

The whole point of what Bruce Perens is doing is to present to the "common" enduser, whether home or business, a single point of entry into the Linux camp. You guys may disagree with it but history has shown so far that people tend to want a single method of interfacing with a computer - ie the GUI

Call it the curse of "Microsoft Windows" if you'd like.
Either way it is a FACT of life, and Bruce Perens should be applauded for driving this home to the Linux hordes.

Ironically, what he's trying to do will have absolutely no bearing on the dozens of other distros out there that people can choose to use.

Don't you people want to see Linux on the Desktop succeed ? This is the way to that end. The funny thing is that this is going to happen anyway. It will be done by individual businesses, if and when they decide to give Linux a try on the desktop. Huge IT departments don't want to have to deal with multiple desktops. It's enough work as it is just dealing with one set of applications on a common GUI.

Sometimes I think the supporters of Linux really don't want to see it grow, unless it will be done on their own narrow-minded terms.

And just for the record, I too prefer KDE, but if having to admin Gnome would mean getting rid of many of our Windows desktops personally I'll suck it up and smile the whole time doing it.
