Many business users can switch to Linux with almost no retraining.

We recently tested a Linux desktop and duplicated the wallpaper, colors, etc. of the PCs the testers had been using. The files they had left on their Windows desktop were just where they expected to find them.

When they booted their computers, there were the same apps they use everyday on their XP machines (Mozilla, OpenOffice, etc.). Their first question was "What version of Windows is this?". A quick explanation of "life without drive letters" answered most of the other questions.

Of course, the normal home pc, is a more complicated machine. Based on the current design, it must be capable of email, chat, surfing the web, downloading every piece of spyware available, becoming infected with any number of the 66,000 or so Windows viruses, and the increasingly popular function of relaying spam via a trojan infection.

Linux has a long way to descend before it can fill those shoes.
