5/10 Navigation needs improvement

louvis@... - 12/07/08  (Edited: 12/07/08)

Pros: Reality view, lane assist, mounting bracket Cons: Navigation, battery life, some displayed text is too small, tech support Overall: Google Maps and Mapquest provide better routing. Navigon tends to make you get off a highway, detour through town, then get back on the highway again. If you already know where you're going, you won't follow its instructions. If you don't know where you're going, it will eventually get you to your destination, but you'll wonder why it chose the route it did. Battery life is only about 30 minutes on a full charge, even after following tech support's bizarre instructions for several cycles of charging the battery. (Apparently turning the unit off isn't enough... you are supposed to hold the power button down for 10 seconds every time you shut it off. Gee, that's a great design!) But it really comes down to poor navigation performance. I would not recommend Navigon to a friend, nor would I buy another.
