1/10 Full Hardware Warranty? Not true!

jfproulx - 07/08/09

We had great expectations when we bought this router for a small business office with 5 people to replace a wornout Watchguard. We tried for 3 weeks to get it to work but it would only allow traffic at a slow speed, taking our 4.7 MBPS download speed to only 0.3 MBPS! After waiting 30 minutes to be connected to the correct department at Netgear and a gruelling 3 hours with their tech support, we were told that the Prosafe was defective and that we had to pay to get it shipped back to them with return prepaid to get a new one shipped back to us. We don't understand this: Netgear supplied a defective device and then we have to pay to get a new one??? Even after we spent hours to get it to work per their instructions? (Who will pay for those lost hours?)

2/10 Netgear Prosafe SRXN3205 - wireless router

The promo said "set up in minutes". After 2 days of trying to configure this router I finally gave up and requested support. It took 2 weeks for the first technician to reply. Then we started a spoon fed dialogue that went over all the basics that I had already covered. Over the next month (yes folks, that's 30 days)I sent them detailed images and system info to no avail. In the end I was told that the router was faulty (a stock answer when you don't know what's wrong I think)and I should send it back (at my expense) and it would be replaced with a (wait for it) re-furbished unit. What other industry can get away with such outrageous conditions? I have the replacement back and still have the same problem - I have networking but no internet connectivity. Netgear's technicians leave a lot to be desired. I found out more about its own products through various forums than on its own site. Maybe the techies would do well to look at those forums for answers too. One last gripe - When you supply an installation CD with a product that deals with connection to the internet and you have hundreds of kilobytes spare, do put the manual on it. It's hard to figure out what your connectivity problem is if you have to download the manual but can't connect. The irony of it all is that the SRXN3205 replaced an old Netgear fr328s cable router so this whole ordeal should have been a no brainer.
