1/10 Don't waste your hard earned $$$$

After working with two of these NAS enclosures I'm ready to use them for target practice. I am a certified electronic tech with 20+ years in the industry and 4-5 years using NAS solutions. Netgears SC101 has to be the biggest waste of time, effort, and money I have every experienced. The systems are unstable ... sometimes the software can find the drives ... sometimes it can't. Non-standard format usage makes this scary ... IF you have an enclosure failure you have no other option but to purchase another SC101 and HOPE you can then access the data. Under XP Pro all applications accessing Explorer in any way become VERY unstable after installing the SCM software. Windows Explorer (most of the time) locks up to the point you can't even end task or shut down the computer running it. Reading through the NetGear Forum shows this to be the case with MANY users while some say they are having no problems. Save yourself the headaches and keep looking!

1/10 Not a good buy

I purchased this box to keep as a shareable backup drive between two users and to use as a backup drive for my server. The box takes longer to delete a directory structure than to copy the data onto it. I cannot use it as a drive from my windows 2003 server therefore unable to backup the server unless the computer is left on. It uses a Netgear interface to the drive rather than a mapped network drive, no security is offered to a directory structure, and each user needs to be setup individually to access the drive. Keep looking find another drive.
