2/10 Low Reliability
miky4 - 04/28/09 (Edited: 04/28/09)
I've had Canon Pixma MP970 for a couple of months. A good side to the printer is that when it's working, it's working fine. Fast performance, flawless prints, high-quality scans (although a bit too bright, see below). However, in case of any little problem it refuses to do anything until you solve the problem. E.g. if any of the cartridges were up, it wouldn't make a single b&w print or even scan an image. This means you have to maintain a full set of back-up cartridges to make sure the printer will work. I also encountered huge problems when replacing the Cyan cartridge. The printer refused to recognize the new one. Again this is a serious problem since you cannot easily call service e.g. in the late evening. Another big drawback is lack of additional settings. I wasn't able to find a way to correct the intensity of the lamp. Images appear too bright. Nor did I find how to adjust resolution. To conclude, I believe Canon tried hard to produce a printer that would rank among the best. Nevertheless, having a printer you cannot rely on, a printer that "does not recognize cartridge" or a printer under repair is basically the same as having no printer at all. Except for the money you paid.
