3/10 HP has gone downhill

astromandan - 11/15/08

I have owned several scanners all made by HP. They have consistently gone down in quality and performance over the years. The current Officejet Pro series (7500, 7600 and 7700) are the worst yet. I scan a lot of old family photographs and when my old HP Laserjet 4MV printer died I decided to get an all-in-one machine to save some space. I have tried two 7780's and a 7555. All three have given consistently bad scans. They randomly sprinkle white dots of various shapes and sizes all over a scanned image. These are not caused by dust on the glass or the original image as they tend to move around if you scan the same image twice. This multifunction device keeps getting rave reviews, but I find it to be totally unsatisfactory if you are planning to use the scanner for photographs. Since there is a photo reprint function built into the printer, I suspect someone might use it for that. The HP Officejet Pro L7555 has the same problems as do the 7600 series devices.
