8/10 Rocketfish Bluetooth Keyboard for Mac

RLT1950 - 09/30/09

I have just added the aluminum/white-key version of the Rocketfish keyboard for Mac. I am using a new iMac 24 and Snow Leopard OS. I had read several reviews of various Rocketfish bluetooth products and was prepared for a possible lost connection. Although the keyboard took about five minutes to become paired, and was not recognized by the OS, it was fully accepted after a minimum of fuss. Few of the reviewers have gone much past the connection issues. In general I am very pleased with the device. It far surpasses the basic laptop keyboard that came with the iMac; however, it is nowhere nearly as comfortable as the Microsoft 7000 I use on my PC. As a typist, my single gripe at present is the spacebar, which is a bit too close in to the bottom row of keys, or else it is just too narrow to hit reliably. IT IS TRUE THAT THERE IS NO CAPS LOCK INDICATOR- but then, if you look at the screen and see you're typing all caps, it seems to be self- indicating to me. After reading the great reviews on the Logitech diNovo for Mac, I was prepared for the Rocketfish to be a bit of a letdown, but it really isn't. The key technology is the same as that used on the diNovo, and, unlike one of the noted drawbacks to the diNovo, the Rocketfish function keys are separated into groups of four. Now, look back over what I have written, and you will see that there are any number of extraneous doublespaces. This may be in part due to my typing technique, but I believe that the keyboard tends to buffer a little quickly, so you don't want to linger on a key very long. On the other hand, this should favor a fast typist, I think. Oh, yeah- this model does come with batteries. BT
