I've had similar experiences with United.

We tried to go from Baltimore to Florida...
http://jeffstravellog.blogspot.com/2008/12/27-december-2008-miami-florida-nope.html

Then we tried again the next day...
http://jeffstravellog.blogspot.com/2009/01/28-december-2008-islamorada-florida-for.html

Never had issues like this with any other airlines.
