Confirm your browser supports the latest web standards
Before purchasing ANY device with a web browser (smartphone, PC, eReader, game console, etc.), you should ensure that the browser included supports the latest web standards. Browser vendors (Mozilla, Apple, Google & Opera) are in the process of rolling out technology that will allow you to use web apps offline, view videos, play 3D accelerated games, etc. directly in the browser, without the need for plugins.

An easy way, to test your browser is to run the Acid3 test:

http://acid3.acidtests.org/

The Acid3 results you should expect, for desktop browsers, are:

Chrome 2.0 - 100/100
Safari 4.0 - 100/100
Opera 10 - 100/100
Firefox 3.5.3 - 93/100
IE 8 - 20/100

If you compare the iPhone 3GS to the Zune HD, you may see results like this:
iPhone 3GS - 100/100
Zune HD - 5/100

Clearly, Microsoft browsers are WAY behind other modern browsers, in terms of standards support. Thus, you should ensure that there is a good 3rd party browser available, for any Microsoft product you buy/use.
