A Year Or So Behind?

I'm not quite sure what you mean when you say that Palm is a "year or
so behind iPhone and several months behind Android." If you are
referring to the product launches and broad availability of developer
tools, I'm not sure that I see how it matters. The real question is,
"How well does a given device meet my needs?"

Though I haven't purchased a Pre, I did spend some time in Best Buy
the other day playing with one. It looks like a fantastic phone that
offers a first rate PIM, communications and e-mail experience.
Though I find 8 GB a little small, the media experience also looks to
be great (though not quite as good as iPhone). And the available apps
look like they are extremely useful.

Most importantly though, the Pre offers one feature that I desperately
need and haven't been able to find on the iPhone: task sync with MS
exchange. This one feature is essential for my work since I use
exchange tasks to assign work to and receive updates from my team.
But iPhone simply doesn't support it, and Palm Pre does. The iPhone's
50,000 applications don't matter one whit to me if a core piece of
functionality has been (probably deliberately) overlooked.

I'm going to be looking for a new handheld in the next few months,
and when I do, iPhone isn't going to be on that list because it doesn't
support one of the top features that I need. However, despite their
"measly" 25 or so apps, Palm Pre will be.
