Free Market
"I think Apple screwed up by allowing way too many 99 cent applications that has left many buyers expecting to pay this measly fee for quality apps. Have any of these iPhone buyers ever purchased applications for Windows Mobile or Palm? Applications for these older mobile operating systems were commonly priced at $19.95 or more..."

So now RIM being even more restrictive than Apple is a good thing? Apple created a market by directly connecting thousands of developers with millions of iPhone owners. Let the the market decide the value of apps.

No developer should complain if their $19.95 app is inferior to a 99 cent app or (shockingly!) a free app. The value of an app shouldn't be determined by the developer or store, but rather by what the consumer is willing to pay. If a developer can't compete with that, there are plenty of others willing to fill the void.

And don't forget that apps sold for $19.95 on other platforms will sell for 99 cents on the iPhone and still generate more revenue for the developer. In fact, take a look at identical apps that are sold for the iPhone, WM, Blackberry, etc., and you'll find they are almost always less expensive on the iPhone for that reason.
