It's more direct than that.

Go to Best Buy and amazingly, the cheapest sets look like they should not have shipped from the factory failing quality control while the high cost sets are superb. I had an employee try to stop me from pressing the "default" settings on the TVs so I could actually see apples to apples. Before you dismiss the cheap set, check and restore to "default", then take the HDMI great quality source into the expensive sets and replace the 42Xs split down composite cables running into the back of the cheap set.
