Totally depends on viewing distance and screen size if buying blu ray is worthwhile.

There is no point going past 720p on a 32" TV.

Also, people's eyesight deteriorates from the age of 2. So by the time you're my age a 1080p on a 37" screen 10ft away is marginally different than an upscaled DVD.

It is not enough for me to buy a blu ray over a dvd. And it is certainly not enough to make me swap my existing DVD collection for blu ray.
