You aren't being fair.
You simply can't blame T-Mobile for not carrying the iPhone- you mention their "unwillingness to carry the iPhone"- but quite frankly, they allow you to use it unlocked on their network.

And a rate plan is a rate plan, you don't get discounts because you have your own phone. I understand your argument, but simply don't agree. The free phones are incentives to get new customers to sign up, and retain older customers by providing free phone upgrades. T-Mobiles rate plans are already some of the cheapest on the market.

Get a G1- visit xda-developers and enjoy it, it's the best phone on the market.

Also, hint hint... go register with freelancersunion.com- it's free, and once you register, t-mobile will provide you a 10% discount on your bill. I only suggest doing this if you do freelance work.
